The Scary Part
03:55
|
|||
Coming back home's like walking in on a secret
That everyone older than me knows
The trouble with moving on is leaving behind
I guess that's how it goes.
And I don't know myself anymore
This must be what growing up is for.
So just let me know
When the scary part is finally over
Until then I'll close my eyes
It's right here in the dark
It takes a lot of heart.
Street lights at this time of night
Make everything seem black and white
And is everything faded
Or is it just me?
An open parenthesis.
Is there a point when more of this makes sense
Or is that only in the past tense?
So just let me know
When the scary part is finally over
Until then I'll close my eyes
It's right here in the dark
Is this the hard part
You told me that you'd tell me
You told me you'd tell me
When I was older
Well I'm older now.
So just let me know
Until then I'll close my eyes
So just let me know
When the scary part is finally over
Until then I'll close my eyes
It's right here in the dark
It takes a lot of heart.

Fine Being Here
02:55
|
|||
The night is slow,
a gentle glow hovers right above the porch
welcoming our footsteps
as we stumble towards the door.
An empty room, a simple tune
to put as all to sleep so that
we can wake with the sun
and not feel so bad.
The summer days, an August blaze,
we're trying hard to hold on tight
to what's left of the freedom
brought with every night.
A winter sky is hanging high
far above the snow and ice.
We are safe, tucked away
in the dim of candle light.
It seems like everyone's waiting
for something better to start.
But we're fine being here,
yeah we're happy right where we are.
If it was up to me
I don't think I'd ever move on.
But it's out of our hands
so let's try our best to hold on.
So when you leave
just promise me
that you will stay the way you are,
bright and strong,
moving fast,
just like a falling star.

The Land & the Sea
03:03
|
|||
Hit the light before you go
So I don't have to see this room
That we have made our own.
Pull the curtains 'til they close
So the sun we try to hide from
Will leave these walls alone.
Turn the music way down low
I don't wanna hear the echoes
Of the nights we spent alone
She's in my blood and in my bones,
She feels brand new and just like home.
And although we may find
That these miles are unkind
There are roads left to roam
And we will take our sweet sweet time
Sticking pins in the map,
Drinking whiskey drinking wine
If you stay with me
I'll make it worth your time.
You're in my head just like a song
With a melody so simple even you could sing along.
I know with you is where I belong
And I've been trying hard to
Find my way since you've been gone.
I am the land you are the sea
And I'd walk a thousand miles
to the coast so we could meet
We fit together perfectly,
and wherever you might go
is everywhere I want to be.
And although we may find
That these miles are unkind
There are roads left to roam
And we will take our sweet sweet time
Sticking pins in the map
Drinking whiskey drinking wine
If you stay with me
I'll make it worth your time

Not The One
03:49
|
|||
The sound of you and me
Coming back from the night we wasted
We're moving quickly
towards the ground.
And we both know
that it's just an echo,
It isn't the same
as the ones we made
the first time around.
And I am not the one you loved
we got lost out there in the summer air
and salvation's never come.
I am not the one you loved
'cause the girl you knew
never made it through,
back where she was from.
You tell me nothing's wrong
But I can see it when you're sleeping
I hate to say
It's no surprise.
The bed is breaking
from all the stories we've been keeping.
The you and me, how we used to be
That we can't revise.
I am not the one you loved
We got lost out there in the summer air
and salvation's never come.
I am not the one you loved
'cause the girl you knew
never made it through,
back where she was from.
Spoke so softly
You couldn't hear me
Over the sound
Of words that we spoke
But now we misquote
Slowly unwound.
And I am not the one you loved
We got lost out there
In the summer air
And salvation's never come
I am not the one you loved
'Cause the girl you knew
Never made it through
Back where she was from
I'm not the one you loved
(Not the one you loved)
We got lost out there
In the summer air
(Not the one you loved)
And salvation's never come
I am not the one you loved
(I'm not the one you loved)
'Cause the girl you knew
Never made it through
Back where she was from.

Things We'll Never Know
03:44
|
|||
We'll be gone, we'll be on our own
Miles from what we know
I'll follow you where you go
(Where do you go)
And you can pretend for now
That you don't have a clue how
We managed to leave this town
(The rest is ours)
For now
So why don't we just fall asleep
In the back of the Jeep
With our shoes still on
And the embers burning low
I can feel that you're
Looking at me
But I don't wanna be
Caught in the undertow
Like a song that I used to play
I'd forgotten until today
There's no wishing this away
(Wish me away)
And we're scared that it's gonna hurt
But I think that I know the words
And I know that I wrote them first
(You wrote them first)
For you
So why don't we just leave our hearts
In the seats of the car
And we'll look for
All the things we'll never know
I can feel that you're
Wishing for me
But I don't wanna be
Caught in the undertow
Maybe it's just me
We have come so far
Afraid you'll disagree
To break another heart
You've broken into me
Let's make another start
So why don't we just fall asleep
In the back of the Jeep
With our shoes still on
And the embers burning low
I can feel that you're
Reaching for me
And now I finally see
We're caught in the undertow
We're caught in the undertow
We're caught in the undertow
Caught in the undertow

Lessons In Gravity
04:12
|
|||
We've landed in the final fall.
We've come to far now, too fast
to call back.
And I wear my hair short now,
but I still sing songs
I wrote with a pony tail
To prove that I know how.
Forgive me for thinking
That this would take
So much longer
So much longer
But I'll just keep laughing
For laughter's sake
And you'll wonder
Yeah you'll wonder
Why I do.
And we'll steal ourselves
For the final spring.
And we'll separate
The stuff we packed
From all the things
We thought we'd bring back home
And we'll wear our whites
But we'll probably stain our clothes
But that's okay
We never thought we were cool anyway.
Forgive me for thinking
That this would take
So much longer
So much longer
But I'll just keep laughing
For laughter's sake
And you'll wonder
Yeah you'll wonder
Why I do.
Forgive me for thinking
That this would take
So much longer
So much longer

Long Distance
03:13
|
|||
The sun still hasn't set
Where you are
Sometimes I forget how far it is
And it's better the days when I don't recall
The years that you held my hand
As I learned to fall.
And the words are getting spare now
It's getting harder to care
And I don't think it gets easier with time
And I'm worried we missed our prime
We have the same conversation
A few times a week
But you just get older
And I'm getting colder
I'm sorry to say
And the world seems smaller
Every time I step outside
Never quite large enough
To find somewhere to hide
And the words are getting spare now
It's getting harder to care
And I don't think it gets easier with time
We're getting hard to define
I think you know it's true
(Words are getting spare)
It's not the same me and you
(It's getting harder to care)
And I don't think it gets easier with time.

Never Wanted More
02:37
|
|||
We left our clothes
Sitting on the dock
We dipped our toes
Then lept into the dark
And floated bare necked
Deep in the blue night sky
I could have died right there by your side
And I never wanted more
From the world my dear
Than to know you're here
When the rain fell
We left the work on our desks
Splashed in puddles
Until we made a mess
Never thinking twice
About taking advice
It's nice to know that
Life can be perfect
If only for the night
Yeah, I never wanted more
From the world my dear
Than to know you're here
And I don't think
Anymore about how
Things could go wrong
Because there are
So many going right
And why would I
Ever go without
When I can simply
Go along with the
Orange of the
Afternoon light
Never thought that
Life could get so good
I thought it might
But that it never would
Well I never wanted more
From the world my dear
Than to know you're here
Than to know you're here.

Warm Again
04:20
|
|||
The leaves are starting to change
But all I feel is exactly the same
And the cold is coming in
Through the window panes
And your eyes are getting
That same sad look you wore last year
Beneath the hood of your coat
And I think that we should get away
So pack your bags, I won't ask twice
I'll drag you if I have to
Throw your mittens out into the night
And get in my car
And we'll take the road south
And we'll keep driving
'Til you feel warm again
Warm again
Some nights I'm happy to sit with
My cup of tea and my blanket around me
But others you know I just feel empty
And you're back in that
Same sad cave that you dug last year
In an attempt to escape
And I think that we should get away
So pack your bags I won't ask twice
I'll drag you if I have to
Throw your mittens out into the night
And get in my car
And we'll take the road south
And we'll keep driving 'til you
Feel warm again
Warm again
So pack your bags I won't ask twice
I'll drag you if I have to
Throw your mittens out into the night
And get in my car
And we'll take the road south
And we'll keep driving
'Til you feel warm again
Warm again
Oh we'll keep on driving
'Til you feel 'til you feel
Oh we'll keep on driving
'Til you feel 'til you feel
We'll keep driving
We'll keep driving
'Til you feel
We'll keep driving
'Til you feel
Warm again

Twenty-One
02:54
|
|||
I leave this place
Happy and lived in
Empty but not for long
Look at this face
Smiling but cinched in
Singing a dark blue song
Here is the sound of the displaced
Here is the song of the worst case
I know the drill,
minutes go faster,
smaller bites of the pie.
I know the math,
one grain of sand
for every ten stars in the sky
Here is the sound of the confused
Here is a song under a new roof.
I leave this place
empty but lived in,
happy but not for long.

Syncopate, Syncopate
01:19
|
|||
Oh my baby,
I've been acting crazy.
But I warned you
at the start of this
So you can't hold
It against me
Oh my darling,
Sorry I keep arguing
about things that
just don't matter,
Saying shit that
I don't mean
Oh and honey
I been feeling funny
About the places
That I'm going to
And the places
I have been
But my sweetness
I will try to treat this
Feeling that's come over me
With a little bit of time
And some laughter
A pretty day to capture
A song to sing
And tea to drink
Is what I'm chasing after
So be patient
Hope you don't mind waiting
I've got big plans
and I'll follow through
And I'm thinking
We're gonna make it
After all.
