about

Music and lyrics by Maggie Kraus

lyrics

The sun shines sweet here
Mornings full of light that never fade.
And the stars look real here
They sing my eyes to sleep when I am wide awake.
The roads aren't paved here
I stumble over stones and when I'm done I wander home.
But my heart sure hurts here
Cause everything I learned was everything I should've known.

And I know I'm out of line but I've been thinking
One too many times about when autumn fell.
And I know that heart of yours can take a beating
But I swear I tried to fix you up and treat you well.

I've got a way with words now,
I bend them till they break entirely.
I try to write them all down
But it's not the same as when you wrote them back to me.

I'll say I'd rather take it all for granted
than change my ways and learn to follow through.
I've gotten good at blaming this on chance and
It isn't hard to see I'm just no good for you.

Now I know I've lost you.
I told myself I wouldn't say a word about the way I've held you.
I sing alone and hope somehow you might have heard
the sounds of every city in between us,
and every single word that didn't rhyme.
Just leave me as you found me in December
And promise not to wake me when you leave this time
